Holding thousands of paintings, prints, drawings and sculptures, the Yale Center for British Art has the largest collection of British artwork outside of the United Kingdom. Created by artists such as William Hogarth, Thomas Gainsborough and Stanley Spencer, the landscapes, portraits and sculptures represent the British lifestyle from the end of the Middle Ages through the present day. The impressive museum also contains a reference library, 200,000 images in the photo archives and almost 30,000 volumes of rare books and manuscripts. The museum is within walking distance of the New Haven Green, on the southern end of Yale University.
